The Society of Watercolor Artists was founded in 1981 by twenty five watercolor artists who wanted to share their enthusiasm, thirst for knowledge, and desire to promote an interest in the medium.  The first meetings were held in a bank on University Drive in Fort Worth.  The articles of incorporation were sent to the state in March 1983, and 501(c)(3) status was applied for and received on August 16, 1983.  Over the years, the society has met in the First Congregational Church on Trail Lake Dr. and in Gabbert's Furniture on Oakmont Blvd before moving to the present location at UNT Health Science Center on Camp Bowie Blvd.

Our membership is composed of Tarrant County and surrounding area residents as well as numerous artists from around the State of Texas, across the United States, and Internationally.

The society has grown to over 400 members, and is continually looking for ways to introduce and enhance the popularity of watercolor painting in Fort Worth, Tarrant County and beyond.
